IDSAM Offers Suggestions to Strengthen Proposed State Legislation Regulating Kratom
On February 26, board members from the Idaho Society of Addiction Medicine (IDSAM) appeared before the Senate Committee on Agricultural Affairs. In their testimony and written letter, they offered suggestions to strengthen the kratom health and safety regulations found in S 1282.
IDSAM praised Idaho lawmakers for pursuing health and safety regulations for kratom products. They also noted that they are seeing an increasing number of patients presenting with complications due to kratom. As such, IDSAM offered suggestions to strengthen S 1282 and its regulation of kratom. Specifically, they highlighted additional measures like age restrictions, product labeling, enhanced enforcement and penalties, and other considerations. Additionally, IDSAM pointed to examples of these suggestions implemented in other states’ kratom regulations.
